Pallet Gate

So, I'm slightly addicted to the Gardening boards on Pinterest.  Sometimes I feel it should be called 50 things you can do with a pallet, though!  We recently replaced and repaired the split rail fencing in the garden, and added a few new gates for easier access.  I am a big fan of home made gates, all of mine are different and unique.  After installing a section of side fencing, but before installing a gate I was left with a gap.

I needed a temporary filler to keep my dogs from wandering.  I so conveniently had a pallet handy, and propped it up overnight.

Ironically the pallet fit perfectly between the posts.  This set me in Pinterest mode, and I joked that I had a new idea about something you can make with a pallet... a gate!  Then I thought about it.  Why not?!  It fit perfectly, it's sturdy, and I have the hardware!  So I ran the idea by my fellow gardeners.

The idea was a hit.  So we got to work on installing the hinges, and trying it out.  The end result?

My Pinterest inspired pallet gate!  I will be adding a diagonal support, and a barrel bolt on the top in the near future.  I'm also considering a planter box on top of the gate for some wave petunias.  It will be a work-in-progress, but I promise to post pics of the end result!
